The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) launched a consultation (to run until 20 November 2020) on possible amendments to reference data and transaction reporting obligations under the Market in Financial Instruments Regulation (MiFIR). The ESMA aims to simplify the current reporting regimes and enhance the quality of the data reported by ensuring consistency among various reporting and transparency requirements. The consultation paper proposals are particularly relevant for trading venues, systematic internalisers, investment firms, data reporting services providers, and asset management companies. Several revisions are considered: the traded on a trading venue concept, scope of indices subject to the reporting obligation, changes to specific data elements to be reported under the transaction reporting obligation, and alignment between European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR) and MiFIR reporting regimes considering the EMIR Refit review
